Cassandra C. - Entry #7

  • My 110 gallons tank and my 65 gallons frag tank have succumbed to inclement weather, and the blackout, I have a total loss of fish and coral. I struggled my best to try to keep the water hot and keep it moving, but my emergency batteries died after 36 hours of work.
After the batteries died, I tried to keep the water at a temperature of 25 ° F and maintain the oxygenation in the water, but putting blankets around the tank, nor the hot water bottles, nor moving the water every 20 to 30 minutes. tired, exhausted and sad, I saw how one by one of my fish was dying due to the freezing of the water, and seeing how my corals lost their battle in the face of bad weather and the lack of electricity. 15 dead fish and 7 lost on the rock, total dead fish: 22, about $ 4,000 worth of corals, plus all my cleaning equipment.

On Saturday February 20 I started to repair my tank, but 3 Ocean revive lights were burned out, 2 300w heaters, my skimmer pump burned out and the return pump burned out.
    Lost fish:
  • Orange Shoulder Tang 8”
  • Magnificent Foxface 8” ½
  • Lavender Tang 7”
  • clown tang 5”
  • Blonde Naso Tang 5”
  • Zebrasoma scopas Tang 5”
  • 2 Black Percula clownfish 2”, “3 ½
  • 2 Ocellaris Clownfish 1” ½, 2” ½
  • Picasso Clownfish, 2” ½
  • Sailfin Tang, Desjardini 6” ½
  • 4 Blue Green Chromis
  • Diamond Watchman Goby 5”
  • 4 Yellowtail Blue Damselfish
  • Harlequin Shrimp

I lost a little over $ 4000 dollars of corals in my two tanks.

    burned equipment:
  • 3 Ocean revive,
  • skimmer pump: reef octopus, bubble blaster pump HY-2000S,
  • 2 EHEIM 300w heaters,
  • return pump Sedra power head model: KSP-5000.
  • in conclusion: my tank was totally lost.
