Chris A. - Entry #21
Been doing refer for about 10 years on and off. The bug bite me one day when I walked into a local reef store in my area. I was instantly hooked and even started working there on the side to help pay for my new addiction. Between growing up and moving to my own first place. I just stop having time for the hobby. Years go by and I meet a girl fall in love the whole no nine yards. We have a baby buy our first brand new house together. Then out of no where I’m in a crazy work accident. I’m left with crazy nerve damage as well as damage to my neck and lower spine. One day me and the family are driving around running errands and we happen to be next to a local store. We wander in and our son who’s 10mths is instantly taken by the fish and coral and lucky for me the wife seems to like them. So after a few weeks or so we finally decide that I need a hobby and I convinced her to let me get a tank. I dive head first into research and equipment and once it’s said and done I end up with a used redsea reefer 250. Everything is looking great I’m passed the year mark on the tank fish and coral are thriving pods are going crazy so I purchased a pair of mandarins(wife’s favorites fish). Then out of no where Texas is hit with a blizzard. I was out of power for so long the house was to cold for our little one. I did what I could to keep temps up and oxygen but unfortunately we had to leave out home and find someone with power and heat for our little one. Lucky enough my parents had power but no water and were only 30 mins away on a good day. 2 hrs later. Once power was restored after about 36 hrs. I was left with rock sand one still kicking clown fish and a ton of dead coral and fish. It was super tragic for me and everyone at home. The pair of mandrians who I said was me and my wife were gone. My yellow tang my 6 line and colony upon colony of coral. I’m at a lose right now and have need fighting to get water quality back in line in hopes that some corals will come back and hopes my last little clown fish will make it. Thanks for the time and hearing my story. Attached is a photo of what the tank looked like in its glory days.
